About Us

Teaching is an immensely rewarding career with potential to shape students’ lives and engage with the communities schools serve. At the Graduate School of Education, we prepare students to be highly-qualified teachers in numerous fields, including high-need certification areas.

As a student in our program, you will enter with strong content knowledge and a range of academic, personal and professional experiences. Through the program, you will build on these knowledge bases and skills to become a dynamic teacher upon program completion and a leader in the profession as your careers progress.

Learning Environment

The University at Buffalo is a major research university, but our teacher education coursework and field experiences are intimate learning environments. Learning experiences are guided by engaged faculty as well as master teachers who help you realize your teaching potential.

Engagement in the Field

Throughout the Western New York community, the Office of Educator Preparation has relationships and works collaboratively with various PreK-12 school districts to provide intensive, mentored field experience and student teaching opportunities. Liaison schools serve as designated sites for enriched and extended opportunities to work with students and master teachers in the field.

Bridging Coursework and Experience

You will identify critical questions throughout your coursework and engage in systematic inquiry to find creative solutions in your field experiences. These experiences work cumulatively to prepare you as an intellectually-curious, critically-reflective and practically-informed educator within the teaching profession.
