For more than 80 years, the Graduate School of Education has delivered local-to-global impact that improves opportunities and changes lives. As a professional school in a Research 1-classified university, GSE is dedicated to training a new generation of practitioners while also pursuing solutions to some of the biggest challenges educators face.
At the Graduate School of Education, we empower students to become transformative leaders in education, human development, information science and educational policy. Through groundbreaking research, innovative pedagogy and real-world applications, GSE graduates are not only experts in their fields—they are trailblazers who redefine them. With a commitment to advancing equity, improving systems and shaping the future of learning, our graduates make a lasting impact on the communities they serve, every day.
Our graduates become leaders in their fields, pursuing careers as university presidents and administrators, principals, superintendents, psychologists, counselors, information specialists, librarians, teachers, faculty and researchers. Our commitment to equity, diversity, justice and inclusion informs everything we do.
Our work at GSE is most valuable when we serve our local schools and communities. We’re dedicated to building and sustaining partnerships with organizations outside UB that are involved in this work every day. As a student, you’ll have a chance to participate in research that solves real problems and informs policy for the public good.
What value does expertise have if you don't share it? GSE’s Faculty in Residence program places faculty members inside schools across Western New York, where they work with administrators, teachers and students to put their knowledge to work. Since the program launched in 2018, we’ve worked with nearly two dozen schools and districts.
UB is consistently ranked among the nation’s 50 best public institutions. That doesn’t just attract some of the world’s brightest students, it also draws some of the world’s best researchers, teachers and innovators. They join our faculty because they understand the power of exploring issues from multiple angles and collaborating with others who can transform society through education.
