For those interested in pursuing a New York State initial teacher certificate through the University at Buffalo's teacher education program, this page provides information regarding prerequisite requirements.
To be eligible for admission, you must have completed a baccalaureate degree with a major approved for the intended certificate title (and, for some certificate titles there are additional content distribution requirements). If you have not completed such a major, program faculty can review transcripts to determine the extent to which an equivalent to an approved major has been achieved. Below is a list of approved majors (and applicable content distribution requirements) for each certificate title.
Admission to the initial and initial/professional tracks for all certification areas of the teacher education program requires applicants to have completed (or to complete while in the program) an approved general education core in liberal arts and sciences.
