Russel Bassarath, a University at Buffalo Graduate School of Education student studying history and social studies education in the UB Teach program, has received a Fulbright Scholar Award. The Fulbright Program is regarded as one of the world’s most prestigious scholarship and international exchange programs.
Driven by a desire to help students achieve success, UB researcher Tiffany Karalis Noel recently published a book that aims to equip doctoral students with the knowledge and practical guidance necessary to successfully complete their dissertations in practice.
How can a school of education enact meaningful change in education systems and society at large? To explore this question, the University at Buffalo Graduate School of Education canceled all coursework and office work for students, faculty and staff on Sept. 22 to host a “Teach-In”— an event that builds on GSE's efforts to discuss and learn about the relationship between racial injustice and education. The school plans to offer a Teach-In every two years.
At a time marked by growing public concern about the number of school-aged children who have difficulties learning to read, GSE hosted the event, “Beyond the Hashtag: Ten Things to Know about the Science of Reading,” to explore and answer these questions.
University at Buffalo Graduate School of Education PhD students Isnino Iftin and Toniqua Lawrence were awarded Prosperity Fellowships for the 2023–24 academic year. Funded through the Prentice Family Foundation, the Western New York Prosperity Fellowship supports students with a passion and talent for entrepreneurship. Fellows are awarded up to $25,000 in scholarship and internship compensation for an academic year.
Billionaire philanthropist Mackenzie Scott recently made a $10 million gift to the nonprofit organization, The Literacy Lab, where UB GSE alumna Heather Jenkins, PhD ’11, serves as chief executive officer.
The award recognized “Global Reach,” a unique language exchange program that Guo developed in collaboration with Ying Zhao, director of the foreign language education program at Capital Normal University (CNU) in Beijing.
