Bullying is a complex problem that requires the understanding of multiple transactions among individual, social and environmental factors. It is evident that not all young people use bullying behavior. Bullying is also not used under all contexts. Who is more likely to use bullying and when? In this presentation, the joint development of bullying perpetration and personality traits will be discussed, along with how these traits work alongside broader social and environmental contexts to contribute to youth bullying. Finally, the implications of understanding these complexities will be discussed, such as helping to effectively mitigate these factors, reduce and prevent bullying, and improve the lives of young people.

Attendees will:

  • Understand the individual differences that contribute to bullying perpetration in young people.
  • Examine the ways that individual differences work alongside various social and environmental factors to directly and indirectly contribute to bullying.
  • Reflect on the implications to help effectively mitigate these factors and reduce bullying perpetration.
