Why Music Education at UB?

The features of our program include:

  • empowering musicians with in-depth study of the psychology of learning as an overarching framework for active music making
  • extensive faculty involvement with the New York State Education Department to shape both the state learning standards for the arts and assessment in the arts
  • meeting standards-based and data-driven instruction; integrating digital technologies to enhance music learning; and valuing music at the core of the curriculum for every student
Prerequisite

To be eligible for this program, you must have majored in or completed 30 credit hours in MUSIC.

In addition, the following music distribution must be met:
›  Academics/Performance: 4 courses in music theory, 2 courses in music history, 2 courses in conducting, 4 courses in a primary instrument (including voice)
›  Public Recital
›  Keyboard Proficiency Exam

›  Secondary Instrument Proficiency: woodwinds, brasses, percussion, strings
