Buffalo Business First quotes UB President Satish K. Tripathi in a story on the significance and impact of UB’s designation as a SUNY flagship school earlier this year by Gov. Kathy Hochul. In higher education, the word flagship describes schools that lead and set an example for the rest of the state’s higher education system, the story notes. Tripathi said the designation will advance UB’s work with the state and further the university’s goal of becoming a top 25 public research university. “We’ve been working on this goal,” Tripathi said of the top 25 ambition. “This is actually a big boost in that. It gives us more of a target in terms of what we need to achieve on the research side, economic development side and hopefully provides some resources to get there as well.”
