Carmen Gonzalez, assistant vice president, purchasing and contract services, was accepted as a fellow for the 2025 SUNY Hispanic Leadership Institute (HLI).

SUNY HLI is a nine-month program running from January through June that’s designed to identify, foster and support the development and retention of current and emerging Hispanic/Latinx leaders for a diverse university system and nation. The curriculum includes monthly group webinars to discuss ongoing projects and emerging issues, individual meetings with HLI mentors and leadership, and a series of retreats and events.

“I am honored to be accepted as a 2025 HLI fellow and have this opportunity to grow my leadership skills and expand my SUNY knowledge,” Gonzalez says. “I am truly impressed with all of the 2025 fellows and the incredible contributions they are making in their fields. As a Latina leader in supply chain management, I have not seen enough representation throughout my career, and I hope to pave the way for others. I believe that the rigorous HLI program will give me the skills, knowledge, resources and network to be a more effective leader that makes impactful contributions to UB and SUNY.”

In her role at UB, Gonzalez oversees procurement operations and contract management to support the institution's academic and institutional goals.

“Carmen has demonstrated exceptional leadership, strategic vision and a deep commitment to advancing institutional goals through effective procurement management,” says Beth Corry, associate vice president of business services and controller. “Her system expertise is complemented by her strategic approach to procurement, ensuring that the university meets its operational needs while adhering to New York State and SUNY Research Foundation policies.”

Gonzalez is also the current vice-chair of the National Board of Directors for the National Association for Educational Procurement and a board member for the East Region of the Chartered Institute for Procurement and Supply. Prior to UB, she served as associate vice president of procurement at Stony Brook University.

“Carmen’s participation in this program reflects her commitment to leadership development,” says Laura Hubbard, vice president for finance and administration. “We look forward to the insights she will bring back to the campus.”

Since its inception in 2017, 60 SUNY professionals and faculty representing 27 campuses have completed the HLI program.
