Integrating technology into English language arts classrooms
Providing support for 7th and 8th grade English teachers
Ryan Rish, assistant professor from the Department of Learning and Instruction, is partnering with the Herman Badillo Bilingual Academy in Buffalo to help integrate technology into the curriculum and provide instructional support for 7th and 8th grade English teachers. The collaboration is part of the UB Graduate School of Education Faculty in Residence Program.
“The Herman Badillo Bilingual Academy has identified technology integration in English language arts as a focal area in their continuation plans,” said Rish. “The goals of this project benefit the teachers and students as they transition to a one-to-one tablet/computer learning environment.”
Rish is working with English teachers to integrate technology into the district’s instructional modules in ways that help support student bilingual learning. Rish and his graduate students are also providing instructional support by assisting with the teaching of instructional units and by offering feedback to the teachers to assess student learning.
The Faculty in Residence Program is an initiative designed to engage GSE faculty and local community-based educational institutions in site-based, mutually beneficial research-based projects. Projects must demonstrate clear benefits to the community and may include a wide-range of researchable topics.
