Racial Equity; College Enrollment, Retention and Graduation Rates of Racial and Ethnic Minority Students
My research hopes to shed further light on how racial inequity affects racial and ethnic students' access, opportunity and success in college and to propose countermeasures to reduce this effect. Colleges and universities must work to enroll, maintain and graduate students from racial and ethnic minorities at the same rate as white students to create a more inclusive, just and democratic America. However, the continued existence of racial polarization and the ideology of white supremacy in American culture has resulted in an unequal allocation of resources, rights and opportunities, exacerbating class divisions. This seriously affects the rights and opportunities of marginalized racial and ethnic students to have equitable access to education. Creating more inclusive and diverse college environments is an often-discussed but rarely-realized endeavor. The gap between racial and ethnic minority students and white students is evident in national enrollment, retention and graduation rate data by race.
