X. Christine Wang, PhD

As the associate dean for research, X. Christine Wang is committed to supporting faculty’s grants-supported research efforts through mentoring and grantsmanship development. In addition to driving the activities of the Office of Research, Dr. Wang plans and organizes the Grant Tuesdays workshop series, meetings with program officers, the GSE mock review program, collaboration events with other campus units, supports large research teams within GSE and provides individualized proposal consultation and post-award support.

Dr. Wang is an expert in early childhood development and learning. She is interested in research relating to technology in young children’s lives and schooling, early literacy (e.g., reading digital text) and early science (e.g., inquiry in formal and informal settings). Dr. Wang holds a PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, as well as an MEd and BA from Beijing Normal University.

Carly Ogletree

Grants Specialist

The grants specialist assists and supports pre-award processes, serving as a liaison to UB central offices of funding support. She manages all aspects of pre-award administration including opportunity identification, proposal preparation, and proposal budgeting. Carly also manages and updates libraries of grants-related training, funding opportunities relevant to GSE and sample proposal materials. She is happy to provide individualized support and project management for faculty at all stages of proposal development.

Before joining GSE, Carly worked on the research and policy team at a large youth development organization. Her particular interest areas include equity in education, social-emotional learning, the role of social media in young people’s well-being and identity formation and the effects of out-of-school-time on high-school aged-youth. Carly holds an MPP from the University of Chicago and a BA in Political Science and Writing-Intensive English from Marquette University.
