Jose Luis Perez is a PhD candidate at the dissertation stage in the Department of Learning and Instruction. He is currently researching strategies to increase the success of low-income Latinx students in STEM undergraduate programs through academic support. Research interest will identify areas of strength and gaps in the types of support students receive from advisors, staff, teachers, and mentors and investigate what helps and discourages Latino students in their ability to achieve their goals. His interest in this study is to connect the support required by students in STEM disciplines and his knowledge in previous jobs with technology. Jose Luis has a Master's degree in Career and Technical Education from Buffalo State College. In addition, he has three Bachelor's degrees in Computer Information (Venezuela), Spanish Literature, and Career and Technical Education from Buffalo State College. He has spent several years working in education in middle school, high school, and colleges, where he has taught Spanish and computer classes. Jose Luis likes to train in the gym, and also he was a Latin dances instructor such as salsa and merengue. Also, he likes to research topics related to education, human development, and Reiki.
