UB Teach Frequently Asked Questions

UB Teach is an accelerated, combined degree program that allows you to earn two degrees within five years: a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Education degree.

• The grade levels you will be certified to teach vary by the program you have applied to.
• The early childhood/childhood concentrations allow you to teach birth through grade 6 (preschool through elementary school).
• Adolescent subject areas are certified to teach in middle and high school.
• ESOL and library science are all-grades certifications allowing you to teach in elementary, middle and high school.

UB accepts the Coalition application and the Common Application (first-year students only) or SUNY application (first-year and transfer students).

If you need help financing your education, you can apply for financial aid by filling out a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) online. The FAFSA is an application that collects the information needed to determine your eligibility for all of the financial aid programs sponsored by the federal government.

In years one through three you will complete your content area coursework in the College of Arts and Sciences and your entry-level education courses.

In years four and five you will take graduate-level coursework in your discipline as well the graduate-level education courses.

Even though you will be completing a combined degree program, you will earn two separate degrees.

You earn the Bachelor of Arts degree after year four and the Master of Education degree after year five.

No, you will not need to apply to move into the graduate portion of the program. Your initial acceptance as an undergraduate at the University at Buffalo allows you to seamlessly transition into the graduate portion in years four and five.

You will need to maintain a 3.0 GPA in year three to move into years four and five of the graduate portion.

No, the GRE is not required.

You will complete your student teaching in year five from September through June.

No, you will not select your student teaching placement location.
