Leah Bartlo is a PhD candidate in the curriculum, instruction and the science of learning program, a 2021 presidential fellowship recipient and a research fellow at UB’s Community Health Equity Research Institute.
Bartlo’s research focuses on improving and expanding lead poisoning prevention and mitigation interventions for children and their families.
Leah earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University at Buffalo and master’s degree in counselor education from St. Bonaventure University. Before beginning her doctoral program, Leah worked in human services for over 20 years. She first worked with individuals with disabilities in direct care, social work and quality assurance. More recently, she has worked with the Learning Disabilities Association of Western New York as program director of LEAD716, an innovative program providing early educational and social-emotional interventions to preschool children diagnosed with elevated blood lead levels in our community.
In her free time, Leah enjoys traveling, reading and spending time with her husband and three sons.
