Receive personalized tutoring from University at Buffalo students to make academic progress a seamless and engaging experience. Our tutors tailor each session to meet your child's specific needs, ensuring they receive the assistance required to excel in their studies. Whether it's mastering academic skills, staying on the path to graduation, or gaining confidence in approaching schoolwork, our tutor-mentors are here to help.
The University at Buffalo in collaboration with the Graduate School of Education offers FREE tutoring services to local students in grades 5–12. Tutor-mentors are available in all subjects. We partner your student with a UB student who will offer academic guidance in regular one-to-one online tutoring sessions.
Tutoring is offered virtually Tuesday through Thursday from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. Appointment time slots depend on tutor-mentor availability.
If you didn't schedule an appointment, drop-in hours may be available Tuesday through Thursday from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Meeting ID: 910 937 40860
Tutor-mentors are current UB students who have been vetted and have received culturally responsive training. All tutor-mentors must complete and pass all NYS fingerprinting requirements and receive ongoing professional development.
There is no charge for the tutor-mentor services. These services are funded by the University at Buffalo and tutor-mentors earn volunteer or work-study hours or internship credit.
Each session with a tutor-mentor is 40 minutes. It is important that your student come prepared with the work they require assistance in and ready to ask specific questions to utilize the session efficiently.
At the beginning it is unlikely students will have the same tutor-mentor for each session. However, as your child signs up more often, we will begin to pair them with the tutor-mentor who has the best connection with them.
Each time your child completes a session, you will receive a follow-up notification sent to the email you used to sign up for the session. You will be able to provide comments in the summary and request to speak with someone if necessary.
