Nurturing Tomorrow's Leaders

GSE’s program in early childhood/childhood education prepares you to teach children from birth through middle school. Specialize in early childhood (birth–grade 2), childhood (grades 1–6) or a specific curriculum field like literacy or mathematics, with an option for a bilingual extension.

Points of Distinction

Children enrolled in the Early Childhood Research Center (ECRC) have been learning about robots this fall. In November, the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences’ robot dog, Yubie, visited the classroom in Baldy Hall. Photographer: Meredith Forrest Kulwicki.

You don't need to go far to gain experience. By interning at the Fisher-Price Endowed Early Childhood Research Center on campus, you'll research on cognition, language, social and emotional development, physical skills and perception.

Catherine Cook-Cottone, professor of counseling, school and educational psychology, and Claire Cameron, associate professor of learning and instruction, study how yoga and mindfulness-based programs for children help establish body awareness, decrease anxiety and assist stress management. Engage in a variety of real-world learning and research experiences at Explore & More Children's Museum, the Fisher-Price Lab, and other Western New York organizations dedicated to serving children and youth.
