Master's

Our master's program in education and technology is for you if (1) you are in a school seeking to improve your technological and teaching knowledge, or (2) you have technology experience and wish to explore its application in educational contexts. Our program provides you with an understanding of how technology is applicable to the learning process, although the program does not lead to New York State classroom teaching certification.

If you currently teach or plan on teaching and want to learn more about developmental reading, and are not seeking New York State teaching certification, our literacy education studies program will provide you with the tools necessary to achieve your professional goals. Our program will expand your knowledge of the theories, methods, and materials of reading, reading instruction, language, language instruction and reading assessment, enabling you to develop competencies that will enrich students’ capabilities.

Our master's program in science and the public focuses on preparing you to engage in public activities and debates related to science, promote science literacy and understanding in the public at large, and promote scholarship in science and humanism, science and public policy, and science in the political, religious and secular environments.

Teacher Education Program

Our master's program in English education focuses on teaching literature and composition in secondary schools, colleges and universities. Our program takes a broad humanistic approach and emphasizes research and practice in language, writing and response to literature. As a graduate student, you will have an opportunity to tutor, conduct research in local schools, publish your work and present papers at local, state and national conferences.

Our doctoral program in curriculum, instruction and the science of learning is a multidisciplinary program that focuses on addressing practical educational problems through research in diverse contexts for learning and teaching. You can create your own customized program to meet your research and career interests in one of these five concentrations — elementary education, English education, mathematics education, reading education and science education –or in the general track that allows for an innovative interdisciplinary focus.

This program prepares you—with your pre-existing content discipline expertise—to use the elements of effective college teaching, assessment, technology integration and 21st century learning tools.

Our advanced certificate program in educational technology and new literacies is for you if you are interested in using the latest technology tools and teaching practices to meet the challenges of 21st century learning environments. The use of technology tools has created a framework called new literacies, which establishes social practices that enable learning concepts to be consumed in new ways.
