Academics

The Department of Learning and Instruction offers a variety of academic program options taught by world-class faculty. Many of our programs are offered online. This flexibility allows our students better access, expanded learning experiences and one-on-one interactions with our faculty. Classes are small, informal, and engaging.

  • Undergraduate Minor in Education

    Education impacts virtually every member of modern society. Our undergraduate minor in education is for you if you are interested in a career in teaching, interested in how people learn, or want to know how to effectively share information with your supervisors and peers.
  • UB Teach Combined BA/EdM Program

    The UB Teach program is a collaboration between the College of Arts and Sciences and the Graduate School of Education offering students the opportunity to earn their bachelor’s and master’s degree in just five years. Upon completion of this combined degree five year program, you will be eligible for New York State professional teaching certification in grades 5–12. This program allows you to save time and money and you will never need to apply to graduate school.

  • Teacher Residency Program

    The UB Teacher Residency is a one-year, paid residency program that has been designed to prepare effective, learner-ready teachers for the Buffalo Public Schools while co-teaching alongside a mentor teacher for an entire school year.
  • Advanced Certificates (AC)

    Advanced certificates are short, focused programs at the graduate level designed to give students advanced skills in a particular subject or area of specialization. A range of advanced certificate programs are offered both on campus and online. These certificates can be taken concurrently with another program at UB, or as a stand-alone program.
  • Certificates of Advanced Study (CAS)

    Our certificate of advanced study (CAS) programs prepare students to meet the New York State academic requirements for initial or permanent certification. Certain certificate of advanced study programs require a master's degree as a prerequisite, while others lead to one.
  • Micro-Credentials

    Micro-credentials showcase the knowledge you've acquired on the road to mastering skills in your area of interest. Smaller than a minor, certificate or degree program, micro-credentials equip you with digital badges that showcase your achievements as a learner.
  • Online Learning

    The Graduate School of Education understands the need for flexibility in learning and is committed to online education by offering a wide variety of high-quality, fully online and blended programs.
