Admission to the initial and initial/professional tracks for all certification areas of the teacher education program requires applicants to have completed (or to complete while in the program) an approved general education core in liberal arts and sciences.
View our general education core form for additional guidance regarding prerequisite distribution requirements.
The requirements for the general education core in liberal arts and sciences may be met as part of successful completion of a baccalaureate degree from the University at Buffalo. For natural sciences, coursework must be in lab-based biology, chemistry, geology or physics (not nutrition). You are advised to plan your thematic and global pathway courses to meet the requirements for the arts; historical and social sciences; humanities; and language other than English.
