Open science strives to make the research enterprise more transparent, accessible and accountable. The information professions have played a key role in promoting aspects of open science, such as open access. Other aspects of open science associated with the communication and acknowledgment of scholarship have not been as widely implemented or studied to date. This presentation addresses research in two emerging areas of open science scholarly communication: data citation and open peer review (OPR).

First, although data sharing has become common practice in many disciplines, attribution of dataset reuse through formal citation has been limited. The result is that researchers do not receive due credit for their shared datasets. This presentation will outline the current state of data citation and challenges associated with the study of data citation.

Second, the important function of peer review has remained largely a black box for researchers and readers. OPR aims to make the review process more transparent. This includes properties such as reviewer identities and/or reviewer reports, which are then made available alongside the published papers. The presentation will also summarize recent research examining the state of OPR and existing models of OPR implementation.
