COVID-19 Information

The Graduate School of Education is monitoring the COVID-19 (the disease caused by the novel coronavirus) situation carefully and is taking proactive and prudent measures at the direction of university leadership to ensure the health and safety of the GSE community in accordance with the guidance provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), NYS Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Department of Health, and the Erie County Department of Health. Our priority is to support the health and safety of our community and maintain quality and continuity in our academic and research programs.


Mandated quarantine for travel to high-COVID-19 areas
Individuals must quarantine for 14 days if they traveled to U.S. states that have a high-test rate for COVID-19 and were there longer than 24 hours. More info is available from UB Human Resources.

Q: How will summer 2020 courses be effected?
All summer coursework will be offered online. Please contact your academic advisor with questions.

Q: If staff are working remotely, how can I access student support services?

Q: With the shift to distance learning, I have questions about grading and other changes in academic policy. Where can I access the most up to date information?
A: The Student Academic Resources page is being updated regularly. We recommend bookmarking this page and checking back frequently as policies change. We also encourage you to contact your academic advisor for program specific questions.

Q: Will I be reimbursed for course fees for materials that I no longer need due to the transition to distance learning?
The University at Buffalo is awaiting further direction from SUNY for guidance on the proration of student charges for credit on accounts and refunds.

University Facilities FAQs

Q: Are University Libraries open?
A: University Libraries have had to make adjustments to hours and capacity during this time. Check their COVID-19 FAQ page for current changes in service.

Q: Where can I print materials for my courses?
The Silverman Library in Capen is open for limited weekday hours and has self-serve print stations for students to use. Further details are available here. The only open UB Library at this time, the Silverman Library also has some computers that adhere to social/physical distancing requirements.

Student Emergency/Hardship and Food Insecurity Resources

Sometimes students experience unexpected or emergency circumstances and/or food insecurity for which they need assistance. The GSE student emergency fund is designed to provide limited financial assistance to GSE students who, due to circumstances beyond their control, encounter an emergency situation or unforeseen expenses. The student emergency fund is designated to off-set short-term financial need and is not intended to replace or supplement financial aid or scholarships. UB offers Blue Table, a virtual food pantry service for UB students who do not have access to food in partnership with the Student Association.
